Getting a little behind in your artwork, eh? She looks so young, and so Californian. She reminds me of Stella Stevens or some other '60's starlet; can't put my finger on exactly who... You have in your lecherous devotion to female derrieres, stumbled upon something frustrating about comic illustration; namely that most heroines are shown from the front to emphasize their sweater puppies. While certainly entertaining (and boosting milk sales), this tactic sadly neglects the glory of their curvaceous cabooses, which deserve no less hands-on love and attention. Thanks for helping rescue the super-powered bottom from oblivion.
Y'know, one of the reasons I like cowgirls as pin-ups is because they lend themselves so readily to tight denim jeans. No matter how ample their bosom, how pretty their smile or flowing hair, their backside gets equal time. One of the frustrations with drawing Supergirl, Batgirl, PowerGirl; etc. from the rear is having to deal with those annoying, concealing capes! At least Wonder Woman's costume was designed for the booty fan.
Ever see Mara Corday in "The Black Scorpion"? She plays a Mexican rancher/cowgirl, and she has a pretty sexy riding outfit when she first appears in the film. She is Hispanic and very shapely. I have always thought she looks a bit like Raquel Welch who is also Hispanic. Also Marie Wilson in 'My Friend Irma"(Martin and Lewis' first film)she's all T&A too! She spends some time walking around in her slip, and she is so voluptuous! In the sequel "MFI Goes West", she appears in a bikini as well as a cowgirl outfit. She plays a ditz, but what a body.
Wow, thanks for the heads-up on those two actresses! I'd heard of Mara Corday before, but not Marie Wilson. I'll be looking for those movies, especially since both girls appear as cowgirls. Any actress who resembles Raquel Welch gets my seal of approval. I've been a fan of hers since "One Million Years B.C." and "Fathom". I've dreamt of her a lot more often than she's dreamt of me.
Marie Wilson is a little unusual looking and and not typically beautiful...especially by today's standards. She frequently played a ditz, which can be kind of irritating, but she had one HELL of a voluptuous body that I just love!
Wilson only briefly has a cowgirl outfit on in My Freind Irma goes West, but she also appears in a two piece swim suit in one scene that really shows off her figure. Come to think of it, she was built a LOT like Marylin Monroe.
I wonder if Corday ever posed nude? She may have but I'll bet the pics are not easily available.
I just love how you do all this with pencils. When I do so, the scanner and/or copier never seems to capture the tones (even after doing some bits with Photoshop). The end result of these pieces just have me impressed and wanting to do more pencil-work (albeit I do like the inks too). Keep up the Great Work, for is wonderful to see and every inspiring! Kudos!
I have to toy with a pencil drawing like this in both Corel and Photoshop to get them anywhere near looking good. And even with my best efforts, I never get the scan to look as good as the actual drawing.
No secret, just playing with all the tone/color/contrast tools until it looks right! Corel has some really good ones, but then Photoshop Elements has one or two that Corel does not seem to have. So I bounce back and forth between both programs until I get what I want. Another factor is if you have a CRT or LED monitor.
really do need to experiment there, for I think we have LED monitors at work (do most of my photoshop [CS3] stuff there), yet still need to figure it out, for the tone work is an added bonus when it can come out! You have me wanting to do more there too (in addition to the inks)
I also recommend working on better quality paper. I like Strathmore 300 series Bristol Board. It's reasonably priced, and fairly easy to find. Sketch book paper is not usually the best paper for serious pencil rendering.
that's kinda narrowing down the target audience a little, wouldn't you say? But I'll give you that one, she can be called "Sit on Bivouac's Face Girl" but only if her tagline is "Milk 'em if you got 'em."
